About the event
Long ago when several of our veterans passed, memorials were not placed to commemorate their lives or service. They were forgotten. Years passed until Pioneer Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution researched and applied for appropriate memorials from Veterans Affairs (VA). During 2023, 17 veteran burials were marked with new VA marble headstones. Each one was researched, approved, and delivered. Then the headstones were installed, and dedicated in Silent Camp. Seven of these newly placed memorials were “Unknown” soldiers, originally interred at Old Fort Boise. Pioneer Chapter appreciated the help with this process from Boise Parks & Recreation and numerous nonprofit volunteers who made the efforts possible.
Currently, thanks to your generous Sponsorships, Pioneer Chapter has installed 24 more new VA marble headstones and flat bronze markers for veterans buried in Field of Honor 2 or Silent Camp. Pioneer Chapter requests your presence at the:
Dedication Ceremony Saturday October 12, 2024 11:00 am Morris Hill Cemetery Field of Honor 2 The ceremony will be brief, but you are welcome to bring folding chairs. Boise Parks & Recreation Along with Vertex Pest Control in May 2023 helped to install 17 new VA headstones in Silent Camp. Seven of these previously unmarked graves were for “Unknown” Civil War Union soldiers transferred from Fort Boise around the turn of the century and reinterred in Silent Camp.
